Leeds: Whites open to Bobby Kamwa exit

Young Leeds United centre-forward Bobby Kamwa could leave the club over the coming days, according to The Yorkshire Evening Post’s Graham Smyth.

The Lowdown: Lack of January activity

The Whites haven’t exactly been busy when it comes to winter signings, with Victor Orta yet to finalise a senior January incoming.

RB Salzburg’s Brenden Aaronson is the main target ahead of Monday’s deadline, with the Whites mulling over a third bid for the attacking midfielder.

Cody Drameh has joined Cardiff City on loan, whereas Crysencio Summerville has been linked with a move to Hamburg. It now seems as if Kamwa, described by Joe Donnohue as a player with ‘fast feet’, could also be on the move before Monday’s transfer deadline.

The Latest: Smyth’s claim

Smyth shared a transfer state of play for The Yorkshire Evening Post on Wednesday, providing updates on the club’s pursuit of Aaronson and the chances of Summerville leaving Elland Road.

When it came to exits, the journalist revealed that Kamwa isn’t in Leeds’ plans and could leave before the end of the month with his contract set to expire in the summer.

The Verdict: Correct call

Kamwa made 11 Premier League 2 appearances last season but hasn’t featured during the current campaign, so looking to move him on is the best for all involved.

The Whites have brought in Mateo Joseph Fernandez to bolster their attacking under-23 ranks this month and also have the likes of Sam Greenwood and Max Dean in that position.

Therefore, Kamwa finding a new club lower down the leagues over the coming days could be beneficial instead of waiting until the summer, although Leeds fans may be more worried over any prospective incomings than a possible exit for the 21-year-old.

PCB yet to submit incident report on Lahore attack – ICC

The PCB has yet to submit to the ICC an incident report on the terror attacks on the Sri Lankan team in Lahore last year, after which there has been no international cricket in the country

Cricinfo staff26-Jul-2010The PCB has yet to submit to the ICC an incident report on the terror attacks on the Sri Lankan team in Lahore last year, after which there has been no international cricket in the country. The attacks took place in March 2009 as the tourists were on their way to Gaddafi Stadium and eight people were killed. Seven Sri Lankan players and the coach were also injured. Since then there has been no international cricket in Pakistan and the national side has been forced to rejig its home commitments to various neutral venues. They have just played a ‘home’ Test series against Australia in England; they played a ‘home’ Test series against New Zealand in New Zealand last year and are due to take on South Africa in the UAE later this year. The ICC had requested an incident report from the PCB in the days after the attack and has repeated the request several times since but has not yet received any information. “We asked the PCB to send the security report into the Lahore incident,” Haroon Lorgat, chief executive of the ICC, told recently. “We have asked them and we haven’t received it.” That was denied, in the same report, by Ijaz Butt, the PCB chairman, who said that claims that the report had not been sent were “absolutely incorrect”.Butt told a local channel that the report was complete and was awaiting approval. “The inquiry report into the incident was prepared by a Lahore High Court panel and the copies of the report have already been given to both PCB and the government,” Butt told .`”It’s a sensitive issue and we can’t bypass the government. We will surely send the copy of the report to the ICC as soon as the government permits us to do so.”Because of the nature of the attack, Pakistan’s interior ministry, the provincial government (of Punjab, where the attacks took place) and other security agencies have been involved in the compiling of the report and given the slow pace of such investigations here, it may take some time before approval is granted. One official familiar with the investigations said only that the report was being worked on and would be completed soon. The ICC confirmed to Cricinfo that no report has been received yet.Any such report will clearly play a role in determining the return of international cricket to Pakistan. “By not submitting the report, the PCB has not been able to form a strategy with the ICC and until the member boards analyse that report they will continue to hesitate when it comes to touring Pakistan,” Ehsan Mani, former ICC president, told .Lorgat and the ICC are keen to look at ways of bringing touring sides back to Pakistan though they acknowledge that a real push will probably be made after the 2011 World Cup. Lorgat recently suggested that it might be possible to send a “hand-picked” side to Pakistan soon, though he steered clear of putting a timeline to it.

Tottenham transfer news on Bergwijn

A Tottenham Hotspur insider expects a big U-turn with Steven Bergwijn as he thinks that he will now remain at Spurs.

The Lowdown: Looked likely…

It was looking likely that Bergwijn was going to leave Spurs earlier in the window, and there are more recent reports claiming that he could still leave for Ajax even after his heroics against Leicester.

As per The Athletic journalist and reliable transfer expert David Ornstein, the North London club are also now working on a deal to try and sign Juventus winger Dejan Kulusevski, which could push Bergwijn further down the pecking order.

Nonetheless, a Lilywhites insider now thinks that he will stay, despite the speculation.

The Latest: Insider on Bergwijn

Speaking to Football Insider, THFC insider John Wenham, who regularly breaks news about the club on his Lilywhite Rose social media channels, has claimed that he now expects Bergwijn to stay, after initially thinking that he would go:

“These offers from Ajax have been heavily reported and I expected him to go.

“He’s another one, like Matt Doherty, who has finally realised they are already at a big club in Tottenham.

“It’s not just the goals at Leicester, I thought he was very good against Chelsea.

“His running caused two of the Chelsea players to get bookings for bringing him down.

“He looked so sharp, I’m chuffed with him. He’s turned a corner and is now a genuine option for us.

“He actually started as a striker against Chelsea which is really interesting.

“Could he still go? I don’t think there’s any chance of him leaving now.

If there are any late-window bids I expect they will be turned down.”

The Verdict: Keep

Even if Kulusevski or another winger is brought in before the deadline, Tottenham should still be looking to keep Bergwijn.

He recently showed his credentials with two very late goals in the 3-2 win away at the King Power Stadium, and with more opportunities, can still be an asset under Antonio Conte.

He averages 1.3 shots per game in the Premier League, the joint-fourth most out of any Spurs player, which shows that he is not afraid to have a pop and is one of the few goal threats in the squad not named Harry Kane or Son Heung-min.

Nonetheless, at 24 years of age, the Netherlands international still has room for improvement, and it is simply too early in his Lilywhites career to bin him off now.

Mohammad Yousuf shines on rainy day

Mohammad Yousuf walked in at New Road 57 minutes into the Pakistanis’ innings after the openers, having started off on a pretty note, had departed in quick succession

ScorecardMohammad Yousuf enjoyed being back in the middle•Getty ImagesMohammad Yousuf walked in at New Road 57 minutes into the Pakistanis’ innings after the openers, having started on a pretty note, had departed in quick succession. As bad light and spells of rain curtailed the most of the day’s play, the severity of the situation probably wasn’t lost on Pakistan’s most senior batsman. All summer the Pakistani batsmen have failed to stay long periods at the crease. After the 150-run defeat against England at Trent Bridge, the PCB, without any hint or suggestion, rushed in Yousuf. His experience was crucial for the young middle order, it was felt. Yousuf had led Pakistan as recently as January but retired abruptly and unceremoniously after a PCB inquest nailed him as one of the culprits for the abysmal Australian tour. Fortunately, he arrived in England with a fresh mindset. He had opted to sit out of the Edgbaston Test, having landed on the eve of the match. On Friday he did not have to wait for long. Yasir Hameed, having been dropped once by Moeen Ali at second slip off Chris Russell, went for a rash stroke the very next delivery, pitched in the channel, and was picked neatly by first slip by Vikram Solanki, who had stepped down as Worcester captain late last evening.Azhar Ali, the other opener, was run out having found himself at the same end as Hameed less than three overs earlier. Suddenly, Kamran Akmal’s decision to bat on an overcast day, with a batting order short of runs, seemed dicey. But Yousuf calmed the nerves. He slid in like a wrestler into the ring. Then, with a hunched stance, he judiciously picked the right balls to play. The first delivery was left alone. Ditto the next one. Two runs were stolen after a misfield at short over. The next 16 deliveries, spread around an hour-long rain break, did not fetch any runs.As the others rushed back to the dressing room, Yousuf altered his path to sign some autographs. He wanted to be there in the middle. He remained padded all through the extended interval as tea was taken, and when play resumed an hour before the regulated stoppage time, he had gathered his wits. The 21-year-old Russell, who is on the Worcester staff and playing his maiden game for the first eleven, was spanked disdainfully as he kept pitching short. Yousuf played a classic square cut past the point boundary. A ball later he steered it past the slips and the vacant third man for another four. The shot of the day arrived a few overs later when Yousuf, in his 30s, charged Russell, and hit a straight drive past the bowler. The local lad was seething with anger mid-pitch.As he was trying to find his own feet, Yousuf helped Umar Amin settle down quickly, too. At the change of overs he was intensely speaking to the left-hander, animatedly directing the dos and don’ts. Amin was guarded to begin with, yet grew confident with time.On a day when rain had robbed about 68 overs, Yousuf maintained his calm and stood out like the rainbow that appeared late in the afternoon and brightened the Pakistanis’ spirits.

Spurs: Sky journalist drops Dembele update

Speaking live on Sky Sports (via Football Daily), reporter Gary Cotterill has shared a deadline day transfer update involving Tottenham Hotspur-linked Ousmane Dembele.

The Lowdown: Tottenham in the picture?

Reports over the past 24 hours have linked Spurs with a possible late swoop for the Barcelona forward who as it stands is set to leave Catalonia on a free deal at the end of 2021/22.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/tottenham-latest-news-2/” title=”Tottenham latest news!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

Reliable correspondent Alasdair Gold claims that the Frenchman had in fact been ‘offered’ out to the Lilywhites and refused to rule out Spurs changing their minds on signing him late in the window (football.london).

Sharing an update on the links with Spurs, Cotterill has made a claim involving London rivals Chelsea.

The Latest: Sky journalist makes live TV claim…

According to his sources, it is believed that the west Londoners are now favourites to sign the 24-year-old as things stand, dealing a potential blow to Tottenham’s transfer hopes as the 11pm deadline nears.

“We’ve seen him also linked this window with Premier League clubs, including Manchester United, Arsenal, Tottenham and Chelsea,” Cotterill explained (via Football Daily).

“What I’m hearing from the Barcelona end is that Chelsea are now front of the queue to sign Dembele in this window.

“I’m told that Chelsea have again been offered the chance to sign Dembele.”

The Verdict: Blow for Tottenham?

News of their capital rivals being favourites for Dembele could come as another bitter blow for any Spurs supporters who were eager to see him in north London. However, a few plus points to this development could be that the France international’s sky-high wages and questionable injury record make this news a blessing in disguise for the Lilywhites.

Even though Antonio Conte will be eager to add more players to his ranks in these final hours of the window, it is far better to sign nobody than the wrong players, even if pundit Rio Ferdinand called Dembele ‘almost unplayable’ recently.

Zimbabwe forfeit Cup match against Scotland

Zimbabwe have forfeited their Intercontinental Cup match against Scotland after the two sides couldn’t agree a venue

ESPNcricinfo staff29-Sep-2010Zimbabwe have forfeited their Intercontinental Cup match against Scotland after the two sides couldn’t agree a venue following Scotland’s decision not tour the country and with the Zimbabwe board declining to use a neutral location. It means Scotland will now face Afghanistan in the final in Dubai during November after the ICC reluctantly accepted Zimbabwe Cricket’s (ZC) decision although warned against it happening again in the future.”We wanted this fixture to go ahead and we did everything possible to facilitate an agreement between the two sides. We were happy for the match to take place anywhere in the world but the sides could not agree,” said Dave Richardson, chairman of the event technical committee and ICC general manager of cricket. “It is disappointing for us and the ICC Intercontinental Cup that these two sides could not agree when or where to play their fixture and, for the integrity of the competition, these circumstances must not be allowed to happen again.””However, taking into account all of the circumstances that have been presented to the technical committee in this case, we are prepared to accept ZC’s unequivocal and unqualified statement of forfeiture and declare the match as being forfeited.”Zimbabwe took part in the tournament – the first-class event for Associate nations – as part of their route back to Test cricket although their decision to forfeit means they won’t be faced with the potential embarrassment of losing in the final despite still being funded as a Full Member.”We feel that the Intercontinental Cup is a significant competition in Scotland’s development and therefore important that it gets the full benefits associated with playing in it,” Ozias Bvute, the ZC managing director, said. “Moreover, given the limited playing opportunities available to them, it would be unnecessarily counterproductive to rob them of their right to participation or reduce their chances of reaching the final.”Zimbabwe has no dispute with either Cricket Scotland or the ICC. Instead, we seek only a solution that will ultimately allow for fair participation by all, as such, ZC has decided to forfeit the match in favour of Scotland. ZC wishes it to be noted that our development side has enjoyed its participation in this competition and we wish Cricket Scotland and their team the best as they now progress to the final.”Cricket Scotland chief executive Roddy Smith added: “Cricket Scotland notes the decision of the event technical committee. We are glad a conclusion has been reached on this issue and we are now very much looking forward to participating in the final. It will be a great opportunity for our young, talented side to experience the big-match environment of an ICC final.”

Hamish Bennett aims for more pace

Hamish Bennett, the New Zealand fast bowler has said his next goal is to add more pace to his deliveries

ESPNcricinfo staff21-Oct-2010The New Zealand fast bowler Hamish Bennett, who made his debut in the recent ODI series against Bangladesh, has said his next goal is to add more pace to his deliveries. Bennett, who played in two of the five ODIs and picked up three wickets at an average of 24.33 with an economy rate of 4.56, was happy with his first stint at the international level.”I’m pretty happy to get three wickets,” Bennett, who was stunned at his call-up, told the . “I gave it everything I had, and I have no regrets over how I played.”Bennett, 23, made his first-class debut for Canterbury in 2005, and has been a steady performer for them with 24 one-day wickets at 37.29. But it was Bennett’s ability to bowl in the mid-140 kph range that New Zealand captain Daniel Vettori said would come in handy, should he prove himself at the international level.Bennett said he had been given a license to bowl as fast as he could during his spells. “They [the coaches] said I would probably get a couple of games to see what I could do, and they told me to just to focus on my pace, and that’s all I tried to do. I didn’t worry about my economy rate; I just looked to bowl fast.”New Zealand were beaten 4-0 in the ODI series and the result plunged New Zealand to seventh in the ICC’s ODI rankings, their lowest position since November 2005. New Zealand Cricket’s (NZC) board will meet with Vettori, coach Mark Greatbatch and high performance director, Roger Mortimer on October 22 to review the tour. Bennett refused to comment on the possible fall-out from the tour but said the conditions and atmosphere of Bangladesh were challenging, especially for a debutant.”I knew things weren’t going to be easy, and you had to be mentally quite tough. You weren’t going to bounce guys out, but if you ran-in hard and hit the deck, then you could get some variable bounce. They [the crowds] were pretty loud; even when they [Bangladesh] scored a run, it was like they had won the World Cup.”New Zealand now tour India for a Test and ODI series, and Bennett said he was hopeful of being picked for the tour. But should he not make the cut, Bennett said, he would look to play a pivotal role with Canterbury in the domestic season.”I think that’s why people play cricket, so they can lead by example, and if I can do that with my performances for Canterbury, then that would be great, but I’ll be happy with whatever role the Canterbury coaches give me.”

Celtic linked with Ola Solbakken

Celtic have been linked with a move for Bodo/Glimt forward Ola Solbakken, as per a report from CeltsAreHere.

The Lowdown: Solbakken profiled

The Hoops will know all about Solbakken, with the 23-year-old scoring one goal and providing an assist in Bodo/Glimt’s 5-1 aggregate win over Ange Postecoglou’s side in the Europa Conference League over the last fortnight.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/celtic-updates-22/” title=”Celtic updates!!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

Solbakken is primarily a right winger who can also play on the left and has 21 goals to his name during his career. The Norway international is out of contract at the end of the calendar year, and links with Celtic have now emerged.

The Latest: Solbakken offered to Celtic

CeltsAreHere shared a story on Friday morning regarding Solbakken, with his agency informing the website that the player is 100% out of contract in December and that there is no extension clause.

The report added that the winger had already been offered to Celtic last summer, and urged the Hoops to go back in for his signature over the next six months.

The Verdict: One to watch?

It seems as if Solbakken could move on from Bodo/Glimt for nothing at the end of 2022, so it might make sense for Celtic to keep a close eye on his situation.

He has shown to Postecoglou firsthand that he can impress on the European stage, and the Hoops boss may now be regretting turning down a move over the summer.

Contact has already been made by the player’s agency and Celtic, as per this update, so it wouldn’t come as a shock if the club decide to go after Solbakken over the next six months.

Man United: Ten Hag wants Martinez

Following the appointment of Erik ten Hag as the new Manchester United manager, reports are beginning to surface that claim the 52-year-old is planning on bringing a number of his current Ajax talents with him to Old Trafford this summer.

What’s the word?

According to Metro, the Dutchman has identified 24-year-old centre-back Lisandro Martinez as one of his key targets in the upcoming summer transfer window.

[snack-amp-story url= “https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/read-the-latest-man-united-news-transfer-rumours-gossip-and-more-nunez-ten-hag-nkunku-richarlison” title=”Read the latest Man United news!”]

Martinez is said to be amongst several players earmarked by the United coach, with Brazilian winger Antony also named as a potential target of the Manchester-bound manager.

Bye-bye Maguire

There have been several reports linking Red Devils captain Harry Maguire with a move away from the club this summer, something that is not overly surprising considering his tumultuous campaign in 2022/23 – with the defender taking the brunt of the criticism for his side’s demise.

And, if the reports that Ten Hag would like to bring Martinez to the club are true, it would further imply that the England international’s future at Old Trafford hangs in the balance ahead of next season.

According to Squawka, when you compare Maguire and Martinez in their respective league performances this season, the Ajax defender has made more ball recoveries, won more aerial and ground duels, conceded fewer goals and made more interceptions in four fewer appearances than his Manchester United counterpart – proving that he would be a huge upgrade if signed.

As such, Ten Hag could form a formidable duo in Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez to improve the Red Devils’ back-line and repair the poor defensive play we have seen throughout the season so far at Old Trafford.

However, Manchester United are not the only club interested in signing the 24-year-old, with Barcelona also in hot pursuit to secure his signature.

And, although Ten Hag will boast an advantage when attempting to bring his current player to the Premier League, if United do not qualify for Champions League football next season, it could well lead to the player going elsewhere.

Ultimately, Ten Hag and his team will have to hope they have enough to attract the £42m talent who was hailed “composed” by Tony Cascarino if Man United are unable to get a top-four finish in the remaining weeks of this season.

We hope the pitch will deteriorate – van Zyl

South Africa coach Corrie van Zyl has admitted bowling Pakistan out twice will be “hard work” but hopes the pitch will deteriorate over the next two days to give his team a good shot at a series win

ESPNcricinfo staff22-Nov-2010South Africa coach Corrie van Zyl has admitted bowling Pakistan out twice will be “hard work” but hopes the pitch will deteriorate over the next two days to give his team a good shot at a series win. In reply to South Africa’s 584, Pakistan’s middle order resisted well, reaching 317 for 6 at stumps at the end of the third day but still 68 adrift of the follow-on.”I would like to see this pitch deteriorate a little bit more,” van Zyl said. “It looks fairly placid at the moment and I haven’t really seen it break up.South Africa would have been hoping for some assistance off the pitch in the morning, but Pakistan’s batsmen managed to defy the seamers. Half-centuries from Azhar Ali, Asad Shafiq and Misbah-ul-Haq steadied Pakistan but left-arm spinner Paul Harris struck with two wickets late in the day to give South Africa hope of wrapping the innings early on the fourth day. But van Zyl doubted if the track had enough in it.”I think it did move a lot on day one and a little bit less on day two and today it was less again,” he said. “But we have to give credit to the Pakistan batsmen, they really played well. They have been patient.”The quicker we can get the last four wickets, then we can have a secondgo. The moisture is not there any more and it is going to be hard work.”South Africa, despite the conditions not entirely in their favour on the third day, did try to ruffle the Pakistan batsmen up with the short ball. When asked if they overdid it, van Zyl said: “At times we could have changed our tactics. I don’t want to sit here and criticise the tactics used in the field. Ma be they felt at times there wasn’t enough movement and at times I thought we were little short.”The third day was an important one for Shafiq, making his Test debut and he impressed, making 61 and adding 107 for the fifth wicket with Misbah. “I was a bit nervous at the start. But after three or four overs I felt comfortable,” he said.”That is how you have to play Tests. You have to play hard. The pitch was very good to bat on. A little difficult with the new ball, but later it is good for batting.”
