Crystal Palace: Fans react to Zaha comments

Former Crystal Palace player Darren Ambrose shared a post on Twitter featuring comments from Wilfried Zaha on Sunday evening, and a number of Eagles fans have been interacting with the one-time midfielder on social media.

Zaha, who still has just under two years remaining on his Selhurst Park deal, netted his first goal of the season in the 3-0 win over Tottenham earlier this month.

That took the 28-year-old’s goal tally to 69, with the Ivorian in line to make his 400th appearance for the club in his next outing. Zaha has been tipped to spend the rest of his career at Selhurst Park, and he recently shared his love for the Palace support.

Ambrose posted these comments from the Ivorian winger on Twitter, with the Palace star hailing the Eagles faithful for their support through the good and the bad:

“I feel like they are the only fans that back you through absolutely everything. Even when you are in bad form, they remember your good performances. Winning a trophy for them would be massive.”

Palace fans react

Ambrose admitted that he agreed 100% with Zaha, with these Palace fans giving their thoughts in response. They were all quick to heap praise on the current Selhurst Park legend, with many sharing their ‘love’ for Zaha.

Exclusive: Ex-Everton star drops huge Richarlison transfer claim

Ex-Everton star Michael Ball believes that Richarlison leaving the club would net the Toffees a “huge” profit.

Reports over the summer suggested that the Brazilian attacker was seen as a potential acquisition for French giants PSG, amid doubts over Kylian Mbappe’s future.

Mbappe was linked with Real Madrid but no deal was ultimately struck, with a bid of just over £171m rejected by the Ligue 1 club.

Richarlison, 24, was seen as the potential replacement for the France international but, of course, no bid was ultimately tabled by the French side.

Richarlison moved to the club back in 2018 from Watford in a deal that ultimately cost the Toffees a fee of £50m.

He has gone on to make a total of 122 appearances for the club, scoring 43 goals and registering 10 assists, while he has also won six caps for Brazil, scoring five goals.

Despite the hefty fee attached to the deal taking him to Goodison Park, Ball believes that he will be sold for a huge profit when he eventually does leave the club.

Speaking exclusively to The Transfer Tavern, he said: “If he starts showing the ability that he thinks he has and what he’s shown glimpses of at Everton then a big club will be coming in for him for top dollar.

“It’s a guy who was apparently ruing the transfer window when he made the move to Everton, will show that Everton will be making a huge profit when he finally does leave.”

Celtic: Klimala loving live in America

Celtic may have signed 12 new bodies for the first team after Ange Postecoglou was made their new manager but there have been some riveting stories of former players in recent weeks.

Odsonne Edouard moved south of the border on transfer deadline day and with his very first touch of the ball, scored on his debut for Crystal Palace.

The Frenchman would net another in their win over Spurs on that same day but Olivier Ntcham and Kristoffer Ajer have also thrived.

Ajer was part of the Brentford squad who sealed a win over Arsenal during their first Premier League outing while Ntcham was in sensational form for Swansea last week.

The Swans were losing 3-0 at half time but his introduction saw the game end 3-3 as he registered a goal and an assist.

However, there is a forgotten man out in America who is very much stealing the show.

That happens to be Patryk Klimala, a player Celtic signed for £3.5m in the winter window of 2020.

The Polish striker was extremely average at Parkhead and struggled to find form, scoring just three goals in 28 appearances for the Hoops.

A move away this year was hardly surprising as the 23-year-old kick-started a mass clear out at Paradise.

He is now playing for the New York Red Bulls in MLS where he’s enjoyed a wonderful revival and is certainly showing what Celtic are missing.

Albian Ajeti has had his own mini-comeback at Celtic with three goals in his last three outings but that could so easily have been Klimala.

The Hoops did, at least, recoup the money they paid 19 months ago and for the American side, that’s now looking like a bargain.

During 2021, Klimala has found the net seven times and also picked up five assists for his new club in 20 outings.

That makes for impressive reading, especially when you consider that he’s scored in three successive games now.

What’s also intriguing is that he scored against Ronny Deila in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

[snack-amp-story url= “https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/check-out-the-latest-celtic-news-duffy-mccarthy-brady-knockaert” title= “Read the latest Celtic news!”]

The ex-Celtic manager is now in charge of New York City FC but he witnessed heartbreak as his team drew 1-1 courtesy of a penalty kick from Klimala in the 12th minute of injury time after a VAR review.

So often used to being the man who was put out to pasture in Glasgow, his fortunes have drastically changed and improved since finding a new home.

Head Coach Gerhard Struber has been delighted with him since his arrival, commenting: “Patryk with his outstanding movements and with his pace, it’s not easy to handle.”

He is now one of the leading lights for the Red Bulls and is relishing his rise to stardom in America.

Hutton: Bolingoli may have wasted chance

Boli Bolingoli may have missed his ‘only’ opportunity to impress Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou, Alan Hutton has told Football Insider.

The lowdown

Postecoglou handed Bolingoli a start in the 1-0 defeat at Livingston last month.

It was the Belgian’s first outing for the club since a three-minute substitute appearance against Kilmarnock in August 2020.

He’d been sent out on loan to Turkish Super Lig outfit Istanbul Basaksehir in the wake of a coronavirus rule breach.

His return to the fold looks to have been short-lived. The left-back, who earns £12,500 per week, was an unused substitute for the cup win over Raith Rovers and didn’t make the matchday squad for the games against Dundee United or Bayer Leverkusen.

The latest

Hutton reckons that Postecoglou wanted to run the rule over Bolingoli and clearly wasn’t impressed.

And he fears that the outlook is now pretty bleak for the 26-year-old.

“You want to have a look at all your players within the squad,” he said. “He did that in the Livingston game.

“Obviously he didn’t do enough to keep his place in the manager’s eyes.

“Sometimes when you get given that opportunity from nowhere, it’s the only time you have to grasp it. Maybe he’s not done that.”

The verdict

Bolingoli might actually be a victim of the poor result, because his performance was decent.

He won seven of his 13 duels during the game and completed 85 of his 90 passes (via SofaScore).

Indeed, Frank McAvennie claimed that he was the best player on the pitch and deserved to keep his place against Dundee United.

But it certainly looks like the manager’s preference is to go with the teenager Adam Montgomery in the absence of Greg Taylor.

Liverpool fans love Mohamed Salah post

A number of Liverpool fans absolutely love Mohamed Salah’s bullish social media post following his incredible performance against Manchester City.

The Reds played out a Premier League classic on Sunday afternoon, drawing 2-2 with City at Anfield in a game which ebbed and flowed.

Sadio Mane, Phil Foden and Kevin De Bruyne all got on the sc0resheet, but it was Salah who stole the show, proving why he is arguably the world’s best player on current form.

The Egyptian created Mane’s goal in superb fashion, before scoring an unbelievable solo effort which will be remembered for many years.

After the game, Salah posted a defiant 11-word message on Instagram [via The Redmen TV on Twitter], saying: “We’re going for the title and we have what it takes.”

Molumby home debut impresses WBA journalist

Journalist Joe Chapman was left impressed with Jayson Molumby’s lively home debut after West Brom’s narrow 1-0 win over Birmingham City.

The Lowdown: West Brom go top

The Baggies returned to Championship duties on Friday evening, resuming their title charge at the expense of Birmingham.

Karlan Grant’s expertly-taken second-half strike was enough for Valerien Ismael’s side get the better of Lee Bowyer’s Blues, despite a less than perfect performance.

The Latest: Molumby impresses on home debut

West Brom struggled to click overall, but someone who did their future chances no harm was Molumby, who made his home debut after joining on loan from Brighton in the summer, coming on as a substitute after the break.

Taking to Twitter on Friday night, Chapman showed his appreciation for the 22-year-old in a positive five-word verdict:

“A word on Jayson Molumby. Home debut, in a derby match with things not going the way of WBA. Made an impact. Promising signs.”

The Verdict: Promising early signs

As Chapman alludes to, Molumby has made an encouraging start to life at the Hawthorns, playing with the kind of intensity that will likely appeal to Ismael.

He made one tackle and won his only aerial duel when he came on and was ‘buzzing around the place’, according to Chapman in his post-match player ratings.

Molumby may not be a key starter as the season progresses but he has shown that he can be effective from the bench, with squad depth so vital in the gruelling Championship campaign.

Aston Villa: Fans react to Davis image

Aston Villa forward Keinan Davis has been pictured back on the training pitch at Bodymoor Heath.

Davis has yet to feature for the Villans this season, having sustained a knee injury in pre-season.

His last action came as a substitute in the 3-2 defeat at Crystal Palace back in May, but he’s now closing in on a comeback.

Dean Smith says he’ll be available for selection once he’s demonstrated his fitness.

What role does Davis play for Villa?

The 23-year-old has started five Premier League games since Aston Villa were promoted in 2019.

The vast majority of his top-flight action has come as a substitute, with 28 separate run-outs from the subs bench.

With Wesley loaned out to Club Brugge, it will fall to Davis to provide cover and competition for Danny Ings and Ollie Watkins alongside youngster Cameron Archer.

The official Aston Villa Twitter account posted the snap of Davis, and here’s what supporters had to say in response.

Crystal Palace learn Joe Aribo price

Crystal Palace have learned the price tag of Rangers midfielder Joe Aribo after being strongly linked with a move for the Nigeria international in recent weeks.

What’s the story?

The Eagles were reportedly monitoring the situation of the 25-year-old amid speculation he was keen to depart Ibrox over the coming months, with new manager Patrick Vieira keen to add further reinforcements to his first-team squad.

And now, according to Football Insider, the Glasgow giants will demand £10m-plus for Aribo over the winter window as they attempt to keep hold of one of their star performers.

The report states that: “Rangers will demand a £10million-plus transfer fee for Joe Aribo in the January window, Football Insider understands. The versatile midfielder, 25, is on the radar of clubs south of the border going into next year and amid growing doubts over his long-term Ibrox future.

“A Rangers source has told Football Insider that the club have no intention of letting Aribo go easily, and it would take an eight-figure fee to get a deal done.”

Crystal Palace fans will be buzzing

Palace supporters will surely be buzzing at the prospect of signing a highly-rated player such as Aribo given his previous exploits north of the border, especially at a relatively cheap price.

The former Charlton Athletic ace was a pivotal part of the side that ended Rangers’ 10-year wait for a Scottish Premiership title last term, cementing his place in the Gers’ history as a result.

However, after scoring 19 goals and laying on a further 17 assists in 107 appearances for Steven Gerrard’s charges, it appears as though the 6-foot maestro is ready for a new challenge.

The 25-year-old’s current contract is set to expire in the summer of 2023, meaning the upcoming window may be the last chance for Rangers to secure a price that’s truly reflective of Aribo’s value.

And he could be the ideal signing for Palace as they look to continue their development under former Nice boss Vieira.

The likes of Conor Gallagher and Will Hughes were brought in by the French tactician over the summer as the overhaul of the capital club’s engine room began, and the former has already made a big impression in south London.

However, Gallagher is only on a season-long loan from Premier League rivals Chelsea, so it seems as though Vieira is already putting plans in place for the 21-year-old’s inevitable exit.

During his time north of the border, Aribo has become renowned for his dribbling skills and ability to pick out a pass, as well as being comfortable sticking a foot in and dispossessing opponents, all traits in which Gallagher excels.

Lycano must start for Saints vs Watford

After getting knocked out of the Carabao Cup in midweek against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, Southampton are back in Premier League action this weekend with a clash against Watford next up for Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side.

Southampton eventually lost 4-3 on penalties against Thomas Tuchel’s side after drawing 1-1 in 90 minutes with Kai Havertz and Che Adams scoring.

On the chalkboard

Looking ahead to the match against the Hornets at Vicarage Road, one player that featured in midweek that we feel should be in the starting XI to face Watford is 24-year-old defender Lyanco.

The Brazilian started the match against Chelsea and played the full 90 minutes in which he managed to have 51 touches of the ball, make 10 clearances, two tackles, one interception and block one shot as well as winning 12 out of the 19 duels he was involved in, ultimately earning himself a decent overall match rating of 7.1/10, making him the joint-second highest rated outfield Saints player on the day according to SofaScore.

In addition to this, Lyanco was also named as Hampshire Live’s star player of the match and described as ‘flawless’ for his performance in the second half.

Since joining the south-coast club back in the previous summer transfer window from Italian outfit Torino on a four-year deal, the centre-back, who is currently valued at £4.5m according to Transfermarkt, has made just two appearances for the Saints, both of which coming in the Carabao Cup and playing a total of just 164 minutes.

He has rarely been utilised since his move despite the Saints boss talking up his impact off-the-pitch.

“He needs to learn his English, but he’s willing to learn in every area. A very good character and a very settled personality. Very happy to have him here,” he said, via the club’s official website.

Looking ahead to the Watford match, Hasenhuttl should finally give Lyanco his first taste of Premier League action this weekend, with Jan Bednarek dropping out of the team to freshen things up at the back for Southampton given how they managed to concede two goals against Burnley in their previous league match, to see if this could help the side pick up all three points on Saturday and move further away from the relegation zone.

If Hasenhuttl does decide to start Lyanco against Watford and the Brazilian manages to put in a similar performance against the Hornets as he did against Chelsea, Southampton could have a new defensive star on their hands that could end up being crucial for their season in terms of avoiding relegation.

‘Rangers can’t stand in Beale’s way’

Rangers have been told not to block any approach from Cardiff City for their coach Michael Beale.

Former Premier League goalkeeper Paddy Kenny was discussing the 41-year-old coach’s future with Football Insider.

The lowdown

BBC Sport reported last month that Beale was on Cardiff’s shortlist of potential replacements for the sacked Mick McCarthy.

Formerly an under-23 coach at Liverpool, he took up an assistant role at Ibrox when Steven Gerrard was appointed as manager in 2018. He was part of the coaching setup which steered Rangers to an unbeaten 2020/21 season and ended Celtic’s run of nine consecutive Premiership titles.

Gerrard admitted earlier this year that it would take him ’15/20 years’ to become as good an ‘on-pitch coach’ as the ‘expert’ Beale, while Kyle Lafferty has claimed that the 41-year-old is ‘the brains’ behind Rangers’ success and described him as ‘amazing’ from a tactical point of view.

The latest

Kenny has said that Rangers will be ‘desperate’ to retain Beale’s services, knowing that losing him would be a significant blow to their domestic and continental prospects, but he urged the club ‘to do the right thing’ if the opportunity to take over at the Bluebirds arises.

The Irish former goalkeeper told Football Insider: “The last thing they need is for him to leave. I’m sure they’ll be desperate to keep him.

“But if he’s got a chance to become a manager, can you stand in his way? I think you’ve got to do the right thing.”

The verdict

When you read the glowing appraisals of Beale, it’s surprising that he hasn’t had a crack at senior management already, so Rangers might well have been bracing themselves for this scenario.

Fans may be worried, particularly in light of Lafferty’s comments, but they can take solace from the experiences of Gerrard’s former club. Zeljko Buvac, labelled ‘The Brain’ in Jurgen Klopp’s setup, left Liverpool in 2018, but the Reds went on to win the Champions League and Premier League over the next two seasons.

As Kenny has said, it would be tough for the Gers to lose Beale, but it could also be hard to deny him his first senior managerial role if he is intent on taking the reins at Cardiff.
