Arsenal’s Predicted Starting 11 to Play Against Man City

This weekend, Arsenal take on Manchester City in the Community Shield in what will be the curtain-raiser for the upcoming Premier League season.

Of course, Pep Guardiola and his side won the treble last season, while Mikel Arteta's men fell just short in their title challenge.

But with all that now behind us and a new campaign to look ahead to, this meeting between last season's first and second-placed teams in the Premier League will no doubt be an interesting match-up.

Read the latest Arsenal transfer news HERE…

Football FanCast has decided to predict the starting lineups for both teams ahead of the game, which takes place at Wembley Stadium on Sunday 6th August at 4pm UK time.

Who will start for Arsenal vs Man City?

There has been plenty of speculation about the goalkeeper's position of late with the Gunners said to be closing in on a deal for Brentford's David Raya, while Matt Turner could be sold to Nottingham Forest. But with this game just a matter of days away, Aaron Ramsdale – who recently gave a brilliant interview – will almost certainly start between the sticks.

With William Saliba now fit after his injury woes at the end of last season, he'll likely start alongside Gabriel Magalhaes at centre-back, with Ben White to his side at right-back. However, Oleksandr Zinchenko has missed all of pre-season with a calf issue and remains a doubt.

With that being the case, it affords new signing Jurrien Timber the opportunity to impress in a new position – which seems a likely option for Mikel Arteta, as the former Ajax man has started in the inverted left-back role for the past two friendly matches.

In midfield, with Granit Xhaka no longer at the club, Kai Havertz will likely be asked to play that role – as he's done in pre-season – while £105m man Declan Rice will also potentially step into the team for his Arsenal debut.

Arsenal's Declan Rice

Of course, Arteta could be more cautious and look for continuity by playing Thomas Partey ahead of one of those two, but seeing as the Community Shield really is more of a glorified friendly, he may opt to experiment with his new-look midfield – although, of course, captain Martin Odegaard will be in the side to offer some on-pitch guidance to his teammates.

Bukayo Saka has had a sickness bug of late but it appears he'll be fine to start, while Gabriel Martinelli will likely play from the off in his usual role on the opposite flank.

Sadly, however, Gabriel Jesus will be out for a number of weeks as he undergoes knee surgery. This opens the door for someone else to impress in the No 9 role.

It's probably a toss-up between Eddie Nketiah and Leandro Trossard, but with the Belgian impressing more in pre-season – notably in netting twice during the 5-3 win over Barcelona – it wouldn't be a huge shock for Arteta to name him up top as he looks to out-manoeuvre Guardiola at Wembley.

Arsenal's predicted XI:

Aaron Ramsdale; Jurrien Timber, Gabriel Magalhaes, William Saliba, Ben White; Declan Rice, Kai Havertz, Martin Odegaard; Gabriel Martinelli, Leandro Trossard, Bukayo Saka

Who will start for Man City vs Arsenal?

For good measure, we may as well include a quick predicted Man City lineup for your enjoyment, too!

According to the Evening Standard, the Manchester outfit are sweating over the fitness of Kevin De Bruyne ahead of Sunday’s match, so it's unlikely he'll be rushed in.

On top of that, Nathan Ake is also a bit of a fitness doubt. However, with new signing Josko Gvardiol only just through the door, it's more likely that someone else will be asked to fill in if Ake can't make it.

Elsewhere, Guardiola must work out how to help fill the void left by Riyad Mahrez who has joined Saudi Pro League outfit

Al Ahli for a fee reportedly worth £30m. At least new signing Mateo Kovacic can likely slot straight in for Ilkay Gundogan who has joined Barcelona.

Man City's predicted XI:

Ederson; Manuel Akanji, Ruben Dias, John Stones, Kyle Walker; Mateo Kovacic, Rodri, Bernardo Silva; Jack Grealish, Erling Haaland, Phil Foden

Dhoni is not even half finished yet – Shastri

The India head coach said MS Dhoni is far from finished as a wicketkeeper-batsman and is very much in the management’s scheme of things for the 2019 World Cup in England

Agarkar: Dhoni among five best players for India

India head coach Ravi Shastri has dispelled doubts over MS Dhoni’s future, stating that he is not even “half finished yet” and is very much in the management’s scheme of things for the 2019 World Cup in England.Dhoni has been in top form in the ongoing ODI series against Sri Lanka, scoring three unbeaten knocks of 45, 67 and 49, the last one coming in his 300th ODI on Thursday.Shastri said that India were on the path of experimentation and rotation ahead of the next World Cup, but Dhoni, 36, remains firmly in their plans.”MS Dhoni is a massive influence on the team. He is a living legend in the dressing room and an ornament to the game,” Shastri said on Friday. “By no means or by any stretch of imagination is he finished or even half finished yet. If anyone thinks so, they are mistaken and they have another one coming. They are in for some surprises. The old dog has plenty to offer.”Apart from praising his batting skills, Shastri also lauded Dhoni as being the best wicketkeeper in the country.”How do you pick players? When they are good, and Dhoni is the best limited-overs keeper in the country. Forget his batting stats, what else do you want. Just because he has played for so many years, you are thinking about a replacement?”He is the best in the country. Would you look to replace Sunil Gavaskar when he was 36 years old or Sachin Tendulkar when he was 36? Dhoni is still the best in the business, so what is the need to even entertain those thoughts?” he asked.Shastri underlined that experimentation and rotation will be the key going forward as India will play in excess of 40 limited-overs matches before the next World Cup. He endorsed the selectors’ decision to keep fitness as the primary criteria for selection.”ODIs are where we will experiment. Winning and losing will not matter so much. Of course, you play to win but we have to try all possible combinations. It is a long way to go until the World Cup and we want to take one series at a time.”Most of our players have played in this series already, and the endeavour will be to rotate the players giving everyone enough opportunity, so that when we have 12-15 months to go for the World Cup, we have a nucleus of about 18-20 players in place. And we can then choose from this group just before the World Cup begins. Obviously, form will be important before that too, but the nucleus will be pretty much in place.”Reiterating his stand on fitness being the most important pre-requisite to selection, Shastri said no compromise will be made on the ground.”We want the best fielding side on the park. That’s it,” he said. “So how do you become the best fielding side on the park? Fitness. And that’s why there have been parameters set.MS Dhoni smashed an unbeaten 49 on his 300th ODI appearance•AFP”My job is not to get involved in selection ever because I want my players to trust me. That’s the job of selectors. They watch more cricket and they see it the year round. If anyone fits into their parameters, depending on their form, then on the cricket field, they are available for selection.”When asked if fitness parameters could see the likes of Yuvraj Singh and Suresh Raina being left out of World Cup plans, Shastri said, “When there are parameters put in place and that’s the vision of the team, then everyone has to fit into those parameters. It is as simple as that.”Shastri’s tenure as full-time coach began on a winning note for India, who won a second consecutive Test series in Sri Lanka and wrapped up the ODI series in emphatic fashion. He, however, has his sights set on the next overseas schedule that begins early next year, and said India have the potential to win all around the world.”If you look at world cricket today, there is not one team in the world that travels well. Not a single one, but India can be that team. And we are already doing it bit by bit.”If you look at last three years, we are starting to travel well. We won the ODI series in England in 2014. We whitewashed Australia [in the T20 series in 2016], and I don’t even remember which team has ever done that in Australia. We have back-to-back series [wins] here in Sri Lanka. We won the Asia Cup last year. So this young side has already had a lot of ‘firsts’ overseas.”Shastri confirmed that Ishant Sharma will be travelling to the UK soon to join R Ashwin and Cheteshwar Pujara, who are playing out the last weeks of the County Championship. Shastri also said he would like to see more fast bowlers as well as top-order batsmen make their way to the county circuit, especially before the Test series in England next summer.”I am all for that. Pujara, Ashwin and now Ishant is also going; I think he is joining Kent. These are vital and key players in our team. The more the players go, the merrier,” he said. “I would like to see a couple more of fast bowlers going there. Zaheer Khan went there for a couple seasons to Worcestershire and he was a changed bowler. So I would love to see Umesh Yadav or Mohammed Shami going there, even if for short periods.”And why just the bowlers, the batsmen should go too. If they want to before the tour, be it Virat Kohli, Shikhar Dhawan, Rohit Sharma or others, I am all for it.”

Chelsea: Reporter teases transfer after Caicedo

Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino isn't prioritising adding an attack-minded midfielder to his squad as a key part of his transfer business; however, the Argentinian may change his mind and target one depending on circumstances, according to journalist Paul Brown.

Who have Chelsea been linked with this summer?

According to Sky Sports News, Chelsea are keen to add Brighton & Hove Albion enforcer Moises Caicedo to the ranks this summer and have moved to firm up their interest in the Ecuador international.

The report states that Chelsea are getting 'encouragement' from the player that he would be willing to join the club if both the Blues and Brighton can thrash out a deal, with personal terms set to be a formality in negotiations.

Telegraph Sport have revealed that any deal to bring Caicedo to Stamford Bridge this window could cost in excess of £100 million as the Seagulls look to maximize their financial gain on the 21-year-old.

Brighton are said to be using Declan Rice's impending move to Arsenal as a benchmark for their high price and think that Caicedo is of a similar calibre to the England international.

Chelsea are in the midst of a midfield reshuffle and have already let go of Mason Mount, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, N'Golo Kante, Kai Havertz and Mateo Kovacic as Pochettino begins to put his stamp on what will be a new-look Blues side.

Speaking to Football FanCast, journalist Brown thinks that someone like Caicedo coming to Chelsea will be a bigger priority than signing an attack-minded midfielder this window; however, he thinks that a playmaker may still emerge as a potential area for Pochettino in the coming weeks.

Brown told FFC: "Their priority is to get the midfield position sorted. I don't think this counts as that area of the field. I think their priority is a player like Caicedo rather than a more attack-minded player, so we'll see. I think this is one that I don't see Chelsea spending a lot of money on unless more players are sold and the budget is boosted in that way, but it's something that could happen."

Will Chelsea move to add an attack-minded midfielder this window?

It's anyone's guess; however, you would imagine that Pochettino has a plan in mind to compensate for the losses of Mount and Havertz, who were both key creative outlets at Chelsea in chance creation.

According to Football London, Lyon youngster Rayan Cherki is under consideration by Pochettino as a potential addition and Chelsea have sent scouts to watch the Frenchman on several occasions this year.

rayan-cherki-lyon

Corriere dello Sport claim that Roma ace Paulo Dybala is another target for Chelsea and state that Pochettino would be willing to trigger his release clause of around £10 million to bring him to Stamford Bridge.

The Guardian have detailed that the Blues are courting Celta Vigo midfielder Gabri Veiga, though Paris Saint-Germain look to be pushing the hardest to acquire the Spaniard.

In the next few weeks, Pochettino's transfer priorities will begin to become clearer as the Argentinian coach looks to deliver success at Chelsea in 2023/24.

Celtic Could Make Tilio Thrive With £6.9m Signing

Celtic kick off their 2023/24 Scottish Premiership campaign at home to Ross County at Parkhead on the fifth of August and there could be a few new faces for the crowd to watch.

The Hoops have made two signings so far in the summer transfer window and they still have plenty of time left before the deadline to make further additions to their squad.

Northern Irish tactician, Brendan Rodgers returned to Paradise to replace Ange Postecoglou last month, after leaving Leicester City earlier this year, and has been able to bring in Odin Thiago Holm along with Australian international Marco Tilio so far.

The latter has joined on a permanent deal from Melbourne City and will be hoping to bolster the manager's attacking options over the months to come.

He has the quality to be a goalscoring threat from out wide and Rodgers could get the best out of him by securing a deal to sign reported Celtic target Anastasios Douvikas.

How good is Anastasios Douvikas?

The Greek international, who has been valued at £6.9m by FC Utrecht, is a prolific centre-forward who also has the quality to be an excellent creator for his teammates, which could make him a very good addition to the squad.

Douvikas, who was once hailed as "sharp" by journalist Josh Bunting, showcased his ability to find the back of the net on a regular basis as he plundered 19 goals in 24 Eredivisie starts during the 2022/23 campaign.

Kyogo Furuhashi (27) was the only Celtic player to score more league goals than the Utrecht star last season, which suggests that Rodgers could land another excellent goalscoring option to bolster his attack by signing the 23-year-old marksman.

Celtic forward Kyogo Furuhashi.

However, his creativity is what could set him apart from the club's current centre-forwards. Douvikas created seven 'big chances' and provided 0.6 key passes per Eredivisie game for his teammates last term.

Kyogo, meanwhile, managed half as many key passes per outing and only created one 'big chance', whilst Hyeon-gyu Oh produced one 'big chance' along with an average of 0.4 key passes per clash across his 16 league appearances.

This suggests that the Greek dynamo would be Rodgers' most creative number nine option, which is why he could be the dream striker for Tilio to be paired with as the Australia international could profit from his chance creation.

The 21-year-old winger racked up ten goals in 25 A-League starts last season, after five goals in 13 starts during the previous term, which – now that Jota has moved on to Al Ittihad – is the second-most goals of any current Celtic player from the campaign just gone, only behind Kyogo's aforementioned 27 strikes

Tilio could, therefore, be one of Rodgers' best goalscoring options in midfield, and playing with a striker as creative as Douvikas could allow the former Melbourne dynamo to thrive, as the Greek gem has proven himself to be far more capable of opening up opposition defences than the club's other number nine options.

This is why the Utrecht finisher could be the perfect signing to complement the left-footed wizard at Parkhead next season, although it remains to be seen whether or not the Scottish giants will go ahead with a deal to sign the forward.

Kusal Perera, Thisara return to Sri Lanka ODI squad

Kusal Perera and Thisara Perera were recalled to Sri Lanka’s ODI squad against Bangladesh, but captain Angelo Mathews continued to remain unavailable due to injury. Other additions in the ODI squad included opening batsman Danushka Gunathilaka – fresh from an excellent run for Sri Lanka A – but there was no place for either seam bowler Nuwan Kulasekara or legspinner Jeffrey Vandersay.Upul Tharanga, who was stand-in captain during their 0-5 ODI whitewash in South Africa, will continue to lead the side in Mathews’ absence. While the management had hoped that Mathews would regain fitness in time for this series, the hamstring tear he sustained during the T20I series in South Africa continued to ail him. Both Pereras have returned to the ODI outfit after showing decent form in the ODI leg of the England Lions’ recent tour of Sri Lanka. Thisara had hit a match-winning 56 not out off 35 in the first unofficial ODI, and taken 2 for 17 in the second. Kusal, meanwhile, had struck two fifties in the three games he played. It was Gunathilaka, however, who headlined that series, with scores of 64, 121 not out, 44 and 51. He returned to the ODI squad after missing the South Africa series with a back complaint and his presence will create additional competition for the opening position. In addition to Gunathilaka, Kusal Perera, Tharanga and Niroshan Dickwella have all recently opened the batting in limited-overs cricket.Sri Lanka’s selectors have unusually selected just one specialist spinner in the 15-man squad, giving Lakshan Sandakan that place, but omitting the likes of Amila Aponso and Vandersay. Allrounders Sachith Pathirana, Asela Gunaratne, and Dhananjaya de Silva are capable slow bowlers however. Left-arm spinning allrounder Chaturanga de Silva, who was picked for that series in South Africa, has been omitted. On the seam-bowling front, Suranga Lakmal appears likely to lead the attack, with Lahiru Kumara and Vikum Sanjaya were also picked. Lasith Malinga has made his comeback from injury in the T20 format, but is yet to reappear in ODIs.The first of three ODIs is scheduled to be played in Dambulla, on March 25.

In a 680-run match, Anwar Ali, who last played for Pakistan in March 2016, also made an impact, sealing Karachi Whites’ place in the final with career-best List A returns of 5 for 49.After being sent in, Karachi Whites lost Arsalan Bashir to seamer Shehzad Azam in the third over, but Shahzaib and captain Akbar-ur-Rehman lifted their side with a 162-run stand in 27.1 overs. By the time Akbar departed in the 31st over, Shazaib was into the 120s. He pressed onto his 150 off 106 balls, then fell in the 40th over for 171 off 117 balls, including 18 fours and seven sixes.Saad Ali (61), Anwar Ali (45), and Tariq Harron (31*) followed up with late blows as Karachi Whites got their total up to 375.Anwar then sparkled with the ball, slicing through Islamabad’s middle and lower order. At 235 for 3 in the 36th over, Islamabad were in the hunt, but they lost their last seven wickets for just 70 runs. The collapse came after Masood was the architect of a pair of strong stands with Abid Ali and Faizan Riaz, 99 and 91 respectively. Masood went onto hit 136 off 116 balls before he was the fifth Islamabad batsman to be dismissed.

Wolves Could Sign Their New Ruben Neves

Wolverhampton Wanderers have been linked with a Portuguese starlet ahead of the transfer window, as Julen Lopetegui prepares for his first summer in charge at Molineux.

It will be a window far from simple for the Spaniard following the revelation of Wolves’ FFP issues, however, with sales expected to be made, there may still be a chance for improvement despite the financial burden.

The latest news reveals the Midlands club’s interest in an 18-year-old starlet from Portugal, who could be the heir to Ruben Neves in more ways than one.

What’s the latest on Joao Neves to Wolves?

As reported by Portuguese outlet A Bola (via Sport Witness), Wolves have emerged as a potential buyer for Benfica youngster Joao Neves.

The report states that the Midlands side are joined by Bayern Munich in displaying interest in the 18-year-old, who has a €60m (£52m) release clause that the Portuguese champions are aiming to raise.

What could Joao Neves bring to Wolves?

Described as being a member of a “highly talented” group of Benfica teens by talent scout Jacek Kulig, the teenager could flourish under Lopetegui.

Wolves have enjoyed showcasing a Portuguese core since their promotion from the Championship, with Ruben Neves and Joao Moutinho providing the perfect midfield pairing at Molineux.

This summer marks the end of an era, with Moutinho confirmed to be departing and Neves being the centre of an ongoing transfer saga to depart for bigger things.

While the duo are irreplaceable in their experience, having made a combined 465 appearances for the club in all competitions, reinforcements can be hired to replicate the baseline of their quality.

ruben-neves-wolverhampton-wanderers-newcastle-united-premier-league

At just 18, Wolves target Joao Neves could be a strong shout to be a suitable successor to his namesake at Molineux, as suggested by their playing styles.

Playing as a deep midfielder on 17 occasions for Benfica this term in the league, Neves has been identified as having strengths in his passing ability and guarding of the ball as per WhoScored, with the Wolves captain possessing similar strengths.

As per Sofascore, the teen displays an array of strengths over a season average comparable to the 26-year-old.

The Tavira-born youngster averages a passing accuracy of 87% to the Wolves skipper’s 84%, as well as displaying a strong presence in the defensive areas of the engine room, winning 57% of his total duels to the Premier League ace’s 53%.

While the 26-year-old averages 2.3 tackles per game to the youngster's 1.5, it’s expected that the seasoned midfielder scores higher in some areas than the prodigy, with their numbers displaying the levels that the Benfica ace is already reaching.

Neves adds a direct threat in the final third for Wolves, which could be replicated by the club's summer target who is identified as being an indirect threat in set pieces, and a handful on the ball, as signified through being fouled an average of 1.3 times per game – as per Sofascore.

The signs are all green for the young talent to potentially thrive at Molineux and follow in Neves’ footsteps, with the only potential gripe being his price tag, which may prove too costly for Lopetegui should Wolves fail to solve their financial woes.
