Chelsea's pursuit of Brighton midfielder Moises Caicedo this summer appears to be "moving", according to a key update from journalist Fabrizio Romano.

How much does Moises Caicedo earn per week?

The Blues know how important a productive summer is in the transfer market, following arguably their most disappointing season in Premier League history in 2022/23.

Chelsea ended up finishing 12th, which felt impossible last August, with Thomas Tuchel, Graham Potter and Frank Lampard all in charge at different points in the campaign, and none of them impressing enough to justify keeping their respective jobs.

The player who has been most strongly linked with coming in and joining the Blues this summer is the £15,000-a-week-earning Caicedo, who has been a wanted man after a stellar season for Brighton, in which he shone for an eye-catching Seagulls side also featuring the likes of Alexis Mac Allister and Pascal Gross in midfield.

With N'Golo Kante and Mateo Kovavic no longer at Stamford Bridge – Jorginho also departed for Arsenal back in January – the need for additions in the middle of the parks is paramount. It seems clear that Chelsea are continuing to push hard to sign Caicedo, but Brighton are proving stubborn, demanding huge money, especially having already lost Mac Allister to Liverpool for a fairly cheap amount by modern standards.

Are Chelsea progressing with Moises Caicedo move?

Taking to Twitter, Romano gave an important update regarding Caicedo's potential move to Chelsea, saying negotiations continue to take place and that the saga is "moving":

"Understand Moisés Caicedo deal is now ‘moving’ between Chelsea and Brighton. The two clubs are discussing amount of fixed fee, £70m not enough. Deal will 100% also include add-ons. Negotiations continue to find a solution as soon as possible."

This has to be considered a positive update over Caicedo's future, with Chelsea slowly but surely trying to grind Brighton down and test their resolve. They clearly know how important the Ecuadorian is for them, hence the fact they are holding out for every possible penny, but there could come a point when they realise that they have to accept an offer and use the funds wisely to rebuild their squad.

The player himself surely wants to join the Blues now, even though they can't offer him Champions League, Europa League or even UEFA Europa Conference League football in 2023/24, with Mauricio Pochettino coming in and looking to bring back the good times to Stamford Bridge.Caicedo would be the perfect midfield signing for Chelsea at a time when they need legs, technical ability and long-term potential, with the 21-year-old possessing the ability to cover ground at will, bite into tackles – he averaged 2.7 per game in the Premier League last season – and also show calmness in possession, having completed 88.8% of his passes in 2022/23.Former Blues and Brighton manager Potter has heaped praise on him in the past, calling him a "fantastic" player, and he is someone who could grow into the next great midfielder on show for the Blues, enjoying a strong understanding with fellow impressive youngster Enzo Fernandez in the middle of the park.

Everton are interested in signing Manchester United goalkeeper Tom Heaton during the summer transfer window, according to a new report.

Could Heaton be available this summer?

The 37-year-old has enjoyed an impressive career, performing at the top level for many years and representing the likes of Cardiff City, Burnley and Aston Villa along the way.

Heaton started his career at United, however, and is now back there during the autumn of his career, having arrived as a backup option in 2021, and he has made three appearances for the Red Devils in his second spell at Old Trafford.

While the £41,923-a-week and three-cap England international did recently sign a new deal with United that will keep him at the club for one more year, that doesn't mean that there isn't still speculation surrounding his future.

With Everton looking to bolster their squad after another tricky and disappointing season in the Premier League, it looks as though Heaton could be an option.

Are Everton eyeing move for Heaton?

According to Football Insider, the Blues have "made contact" with United over a possible move for the goalkeeper this summer, having been the "subject of a few other enquiries" already, including from newly-promoted Luton Town.

That being said, the report goes on to add that the Reds are "not prepared to sanction" Heaton's exit, due to uncertainty over the future of current first-choice stopper David De Gea. It has left the veteran in "limbo" when it comes to his own career, amid interest from "several" clubs.

Heaton could be a shrewd signing by Everton in the summer transfer window, not coming in as No.1 – but acting as a solid squad option with a huge amount of experience who has made a whopping 200 appearances under Sean Dyche, who has hailed the player in the past on a number of occasions while at Burnley.

At 37, he may still have a few years left in him, considering many 'keepers can remain at the top level until they are around 40 years of age, and he is someone who could fill in and do a job when required, most likely in competitions such as the FA Cup and EFL Cup.

Signing Heaton as a direct replacement for Jordan Pickford may not be good enough, given his advancing years, but having a homegrown deputy who knows the game inside and out could make sense, especially as he was once hailed as "unbelievable" by Alan Shearer during his Burnley days.

What’s the latest on Harvey Barnes to Arsenal?

According to the Daily Mail, Arsenal are chasing Harvey Barnes as Mikel Arteta looks to add some much-needed attacking depth to his squad ahead of next season.

The Gunners will face competition, however, as Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United are also keen on the winger. Spurs recently made a joint bid of £50m for Barnes and teammate James Maddison, yet this was rejected by the Foxes.

The Telegraph claimed earlier this month that the Championship side will demand around £40m for Barnes this summer and this is certainly within Arteta’s budget.

Who is Harvey Barnes similar to?

Anything is a possibility, especially since the player will be looking for a move to a Premier League club during the transfer window and Arteta could make his move soon.

Barnes was one of the Foxes’ few bright sparks in what was a terrible campaign, resulting in their relegation to the second tier, just seven years after they stunned the rest of the country by winning the league.

The winger scored 13 goals in 34 top-flight appearances from the left wing, and the 25-year-old is also statistically similar to Manchester United sensation Marcus Rashford.

The United winger registered a quite remarkable 41 goal contributions across 56 games and since Erik ten Hag arrived at the Old Trafford side, he has taken his game to new heights, and a comparison to a player such as Rashford isn’t a bad one to have, especially with Arteta looking for more quality in his attack.

The 52-cap maestro is the fifth-most comparable player to Barnes according to FBref and with Rashford and Barnes preferring to cut inside often during games while not diving into tackles, they may be alike in more ways than one.

Over the previous 365 days, Barnes ranks in the top 10% across Europe’s big five leagues for goals, shots on target and goals per shot, while the United star also ranks in the 10% for the same metrics, proving that they are both among the continent's finest in terms of prowess in front of goal and the ability to create plenty of scoring opportunities for themselves.

Dubbed a “livewire” by pundit Alan Hutton, Arsenal may have the ideal chance to secure their very own Rashford with a move for the one-cap dynamo.

Arsenal are monitoring the availability of Chelsea striker Kai Havertz ahead of a potential summer move, according to a report from The Telegraph.

Is Kai Havertz leaving Chelsea?

According to reports, Havertz is set to leave Chelsea this summer, though it is now unlikely he will be moving to Real Madrid, as the Spanish side are said to have cooled their pursuit amid concerns about the Blues' asking price.

The same report details that Chelsea are keen to keep hold of the German, but that they would sell him for the right price as they need to raise money after failing to qualify for the Champions League despite spending heavily.

Madrid may have backed away from the negotiating table for now, though they could go back in for him at a later stage, while Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain are also named as potential suitors.

The 23-year-old may also have the option to remain in the Premier League, as The Telegraph reports that Arsenal are monitoring his situation with Chelsea, although the £70m price tag has so far dissuaded them from making a move.

Chelsea are holding out for a large fee given that the Germany international's contract does not expire until 2025, but the player himself could push for a move, as he is interested in a move elsewhere – particularly to Real Madrid.

It is deemed unlikely that any potential suitor will offer more than £50m for the forward, giving the Blues a big decision to make this summer.

Should Arsenal sign Kai Havertz?

Considering the £150k-per-week attacker scored just seven goals in 35 Premier League appearances last season, despite most commonly being utilised as a striker, £70m would surely be far too much of an outlay. However, he could be a solid addition for a lower fee.

Hailed as "exceptional" by members of the media, the former Bayer Leverkusen man recorded 14 goals in all competitions during the 2021-22 campaign, the second-highest figure of any Chelsea player.

There have been reports indicating that Mikel Arteta is keen on bringing a more physical striker this summer, and the 6 foot 3 colossus could fit the bill in that regard, considering he has averaged more aerials won per 90 than Gabriel Jesus over the past year.

However, Havertz's record in front of goal is a real issue, missing 14 big chances in the Premier League last season, and he should only be signed if Chelsea lower their asking price.

Everton would be willing to sell Amadou Onana for £50m this summer if they are relegated from the Premier League, according to a report from Football Insider.

Which Everton players could leave this summer?

There are a number of first-team players with their contracts set to expire at the end of the season, including Yerry Mina and Abdoulaye Doucoure, although Everton do retain the right to extend the latter player's deal by an additional year.

Not only that, but several players have been linked with a move away from Goodison Park, including Dominic Calvert-Lewin, and Arsenal have "looked at" signing the striker, according to journalist Dean Jones.

Despite signing a new deal earlier this season, Jordan Pickford continues to be targeted by a number of Premier League clubs, including Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United, with it being reported the goalkeeper can leave if the Toffees are relegated.

Another player Everton may be forced to cash-in on if they are relegated from the top flight is Onana, with Football Insider now reporting they would be willing to accept a £50m bid if they go down to the Championship.

After an impressive debut season at Goodison Park, the midfielder has drawn attention from a number of top clubs, including Man United, with Erik ten Hag said to be a huge admirer.

If the Merseyside club are relegated, the Belgian will push for a move this summer, however if they are able to survive the drop, the club's hierarchy will attempt to convince him to stay.

Dyche's side have shown real signs of improvement in recent weeks, particularly in the 5-1 win away down at Brighton, so they will be hoping they can beat the drop, and keep hold of Onana.

Chelsea could still sign Sadio Mane this summer, but others will have the leave the club first, according to an update from transfer insider Dean Jones.

Is Mane having a good season?

The 31-year-old moved to Bayern Munich from Liverpool last summer, following six memorable years at Anfield that had seen him become one of the best players in the Premier League. Big things were expected of him in Germany, but in truth, his first season there has been a disappointment.

After a promising start to life at Bayern, Mane has seen injuries disrupt his rhythm and playing time – he also missed the World Cup – and it has affected his performances at the same time since returning. Not only that, but a recent scuffle with teammate Leroy Sane saw him suspended and fined by the club, further suggesting that all is not well.

It could be that the £306,000-a-week star is allowed to leave Bayern at the end of the season, and with Chelsea looking for attacking reinforcements this summer, they have been linked with a move for him in the coming months. Now, a new update has emerged regarding the situation.

Could Chelsea snap up Mane?

Speaking to Give Me Sport, Jones said that Mane could indeed sign if Mauricio Pochettino backs the deal, but only if other unwanted individuals leave Stamford Bridge at the same time:

"So, Mane back to the Premier League? I could see that, but let’s wait until Poch is through the door before knowing whether that switch is genuinely doable. Maybe Pochettino is behind a move for Mane, but they cannot make a move like that unless others are heading out the door."

Chelsea's potential signing of Mane is a scenario that has both positive and negative elements to it, so it is a difficult one to weigh up overall.

On the plus side, the 95-cap Senegal international remains a good player with huge pedigree, and the fact that he has scored 111 goals in 263 Premier League appearances is proof that he knows how to excel in the division. That being said, at 31, his best days are now probably behind him and he has lost the electric pace he once possessed, meaning Chelsea could be wiser to look at younger alternatives.

It certainly wouldn't be a bad thing if the Blues snapped up Mane, especially if Pochettino personally wants him, but it wouldn't be a shock to see him come in and not be the force of old.

Journalist Fabrizio Romano has revealed that the future of loaned-out Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku has not been decided.

What's the latest Chelsea transfer news?

The Belgium forward only signed for the Blues the summer before last, arriving from Inter for what was a club-record £97.5m transfer fee.

After just one season back in England, however, he then returned back to the Serie A club on loan, leaving his long-term future at Stamford Bridge under much doubt.

Still, when he left England, Thomas Tuchel was in charge. Now the German and his replacement Graham Potter have both been sacked, much has changed at Chelsea.

It seems as though Mauricio Pochettino will take over as manager next season, and this could potentially open the door for Lukaku to return.

While speaking on his YouTube channel, Romano explained that Inter and the Blues will hold talks in the next month or so – but nothing is set in stone just yet one way or the other amid uncertainties over the future of Nerazzurri boss Simone Inzaghi.

He explained: "So Lukaku is waiting for Inter, and Inter are waiting to make important decisions, including [on] the coach.

"There will be a talk with Chelsea at the end of the season. So Chelsea and Inter will speak, it will be [at the] end of May, beginning of June – they will have a conversation about the situation of Romelu Lukaku.

“So it's not over yet. But for Lukaku, that is the crucial moment – not now. Nothing will be decided now.

"And also, it's important to understand who is going to be Chelsea's new coach – probably Mauricio Pochettino – [in terms of] the decision on Lukaku. So at the moment, nothing [has been] decided.”

Will Lukaku go back to Chelsea?

Much has been made about the Premier League club's need for a goalscoring striker in their team and it shouldn't be forgotten that Lukaku could be a solution to this issue.

After all, he has scored over 250 senior goals over the span of his career – including 15 in a Chelsea shirt.

However, his form in Italy hasn't been that great this term, as he has only nine goals in 26 games across all competitions.

Even so, the Blues may not be able to spend much this summer as they are potentially at risk of breaching Financial Fair Play rules.

With that being the case, Lukaku may be the best way of solving their striker problems without dipping into the transfer market. At the same time, if Inter come in with a decent offer, it may be wise to accept it.

All in all, it will certainly be interesting to see where the £185k-per-week star's future lies.
