Chelsea set to sell £38m+ player Maresca doesn't want for profit in summer

Chelsea are already putting their transfer plans in place ahead of the upcoming window and may now be set to make one of their first-team stars available to interested bidders, per a report.

Chelsea make a swift start on summer transfer activity

Enzo Maresca has plenty on his plate with the Blues’ quest to secure a Champions League qualification spot in the Premier League alongside aiming to finish the campaign with a flourish by claiming the Conference League title.

However, Chelsea already have one eye on the summer transfer window regardless of their on-field objectives. Stamford Bridge will see the arrival of Geovany Quenda and Dario Essugo after deals were agreed to bring both to west London for around £62m, albeit the former is set to link up with his new teammates in 2026.

Unlikely to touch the sides, the Blues are also in the mix to sign River Plate forward Franco Mastantuono, who has a £35 million release clause at the South American giants.

Admittedly, Chelsea’s approach to bringing young talent through the door at Cobham has drawn plenty of scepticism. Still, BlueCo have made it clear they want to build a portfolio of prodigious stars for the club to develop in years to come.

Whether they manage to make the jump to stardom or not is hard to gauge at this point. Nevertheless, players must also depart to make way for arrivals to stay compliant with PSR regulations.

With that in mind, Maresca appears to have made his mind up on one star who now looks set to leave Stamford Bridge in the near future amid recent developments.

Chelsea set to make a profit on Axel Disasi this summer

According to Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea are set to sell Axel Disasi this summer for a profit as he is no longer part of Maresca’s plans at Stamford Bridge.

Sent out on loan to Aston Villa in January, he is one of several high-earners who could be moved on to free up space for new additions this summer – Raheem Sterling, Ben Chilwell and Armando Broja are also set to be placed on the chopping block.

Brought in for £38.3m in August 2023, Disasi has scored five times and registered two assists in 61 appearances for Chelsea. On loan at Aston Villa, he has followed that up with a further six outings under Unai Emery.

Showcasing his firm presence across the backline, the France international has won 33 duels in the Premier League this season. However, that is unlikely to be enough for his parent club to factor him into their future plans.

On the face of it, a deal that allows Disasi regular first-team football and inherits the Blues a tidy profit would be a smart piece of business that would suit all parties.

The U.S. were dealt a significant injury blow this weekend, with Haji Wright picking up an Achilles injury that will rule him out for the remainder of the Gold Cup, the USMNT announced. Wright missed the second fixture of the U.S.'s Gold Cup campaign, but was expected to be a key fixture in Mauricio Pochettino's squad for the remainder of the tournament.

"It’s sad. He’s a very good guy and added a lot of quality in the group as a different option," Pochettino said in Saturday's pregame press conference. "He's a player that can play different positions in attack. Yes, a sad situation, sad for him, sad for the team, yeah, but I think we need to prioritize his process of recovery. A sad moment, but we need to be looking forward and try to accept the reality and keep being strong."

Wright will now return to his club team Coventry City for further evaluation.

Wright figured to be a valuable option in multiple positions for Pochettino at the tournament. The Coventry man can play either on the left or through the middle of a front three – although he didn't start the first game of the campaign. The 27-year-old made his presence felt in the Americans' Gold Cup opener as he scored after being subbed in the team's 5-0 win.

Pochettino revealed Wright had arrived to the U.S. camp with pain in his Achilles.

“For Haji. He already arrived with some problems with the Achilles," the manager said. "We could not fix the problem with the pain. That is why we made the decision we had to make”

Per Gold Cup tournament rules, Wright cannot be replaced on the roster.

Key figures at FSG now eyeing £50m Real Madrid man who mocks Liverpool star

Liverpool are believed to be interested in signing an “exceptional” player this summer, but it could be a controversial piece of business by the Reds given the target’s relationship with a current Liverpool star.

Liverpool looking at replacements for star players

Arne Slot continues to eye up fresh faces ahead of next season, especially with doubts surrounding the futures of Trent Alexander-Arnold, Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah.

Rayo Vallecano right-back Andrei Ratiu has been linked with a move to Liverpool at the end of the season, being seen as a potential replacement for Alexander-Arnold, should he decide to trade Anfield for Real Madrid.

On the opposite flank, Bournemouth left-back Milos Kerkez now looks like the leading contender to be Andy Robertson’s long-term successor for the Reds, and a fresh report has claimed that the 21-year-old is ‘on track’ to complete a move to Merseyside this summer.

Luis Diaz isn’t guaranteed to stay at Liverpool beyond this season, despite enjoying some good moments in 2024/25, including an excellent performance against Everton in midweek, assisting Diogo Jota for the winning goal. Crystal Palace star Eberechi Eze has been mentioned as a possible option to come in and replace the Colombian.

Slot eyeing move for £50m Real Madrid star Arda Guler

According to a new report from Caught Offside, Liverpool are keen on signing Real Madrid starlet Arda Guler this summer, with the 20-year-old expected to cost around £50m or perhaps even less this summer.

FSG’s recruitment team have a “strong appreciation” for the highly-rated Turkley international, but there is a possible speed bump regarding a move to Anfield, due to his recent spat with Dominik Szoboszlai during the international break. The pair traded social media blows after Turkey’s 3-0 win over Hungary, clearly having little time for one another.

Despite this, Guler should still be looked at as a great option for Liverpool in the summer window, with many players throughout history able to be good teammates, even if they don’t get along off the pitch.

The young Turk is a player who could have a massive career, possessing a wand-like left foot and being hailed by Jose Mourinho last year: “Arda is showing great personality and exceptional quality. To play at that club, personality is crucial. Players must internalize that they are good enough to play there. They can’t be afraid.”

He has struggled to be a regular starter for Madrid this season, only making seven starts and 19 appearances in La Liga, but there is no shame in that, considering he is up against the likes of Kylian Mbappe, Vinicius Jr and Rodrygo, among others.

The idea of enjoying more minutes elsewhere at a club like Liverpool may appeal to Guler, so he should be looked at as an extremely exciting option in the coming months.

Why the summer transfer window will close for six days and re-open again

Premier League clubs have recently voted to open the summer transfer window early later this year – and it’s all because of Manchester City and Chelsea.

Due to the expanded FIFA Club World Cup, which features the winners of the 2023 and 2021 Champions Leagues, the game’s world governing body had given leagues involved the option to open their summer transfer window for 10 days.

This will allow clubs participating in the tournament to do some business before the tournament starts on 14th June.

The FIFA Club World Cup takes place this summer, with plenty of teams set to head to the United States in July 2025.

ByRoss Kilvington Oct 30, 2024 Why the transfer window will close for six days in the summer

At a meeting in central London, Premier League clubs have voted for an early start to the window on Sunday 1st June, before closing again on Tuesday 10th June.

It will then reopen on Monday 16th June ahead of the summer transfer deadline on Monday 1st September. But why does the window have to close?

FIFA transfer windows can only be open for a maximum of 89 days, meaning the window must close briefly so that the deadline can remain in line with the rest of Europe.

If the Premier League’s window was to close earlier, it could leave clubs at a disadvantage as they would be able to sell players without the prospect of replacing them.

Manchester City and Chelsea are taking part in the first 32-team FIFA Club World Cup, which takes place in the United States between 14th June and 13th July.

UEFA has 12 slots available, and are made up of the last four Champions League winners, as well as the best-ranked teams over the last four years as per UEFA’s team ranking.

South America’s CONMEBOL has six teams, while all the other confederations have four teams each, except for Oceania’s OFC, who are represented by New Zealand’s Auckland City. Major League Soccer’s Inter Miami were invited as ‘hosts’.

The format is similar to a World Cup, with the top two in each group advancing to the knockout stages.

NO INTERNACIONAL

No ano seguinte foi vendido à Udinese, outro time italiano.

Head, Abbott, Stoinis subdue South Africa to seal 3-0 win for Australia

Australia 191 for 5 (Head 91, Fortuin 2-36) beat South Africa 190 for 8 (Ferreira 48, Abbott 4-31) by five wickets Australia swept the T20I series 3-0 with another dominant performance in Durban. They completed their sixth-highest successful chase in the format after South Africa recovered from 122 for 6 in the 14th over to post a competitive target but then dropped four catches in defence.Travis Head (on 53 and 55) and Josh Inglis (on 12 and 40) were put down twice each and shared in an 85-run third-wicket stand to steady Australia after two early losses. Inglis was dismissed for 42 but Head went on to put on 58 with Marcus Stoinis and finish with 91 to put victory beyond doubt.South Africa will be frustrated with their inability to do enough to challenge Australia, despite fielding an experimental XI throughout the series. Their team had two debutants this time, and there were four across the three matches. Of those, Donovan Ferreira was the most successful and scored 48 runs off 21 balls to give their innings heft.Earlier, Reeza Hendricks and Aiden Markram put on 58 for the second wicket and Hendricks and Tristan Stubbs’ third-wicket stand was worth 46 but no other partnership got past 11 runs. Sean Abbott followed up well from Marcus Stoinis’ start and only Nathan Ellis conceded at more than 10 runs an over.Stoinis starts well again Stoinis was tasked with opening the bowling once again today and he delivered. On a surface that Mitchell Marsh described as “tacky”, Stoinis’ second ball seemed to stick before it kicked up to catch the edge of Temba Bavuma’s dangling bat. Head took a well-judged catch diving forward to send Bavuma back for his second first-baller of the series. Stoinis stuck to hard lengths in his second over but debutant Matthew Breetzke was in too much of a hurry to see him off. Breetzke tried to hit Stoinis over mid-on but spliced the ball straight to Tim David. South Africa were 12 for 2 in the third over.Abbott for Australia Ellis took a double-wicket maiden to end South Africa’s powerplay in the second match, and Abbott repeated the feat in the 14th over of the final fixture to pin the hosts back. Stubbs looked dangerous on 25 off 15 balls and looked to hit a full ball through deep midwicket for a couple but lofted it to the fielder stationed there. Three balls later, Abbott disguised his slower ball, and Bjorn Fortuin chipped it to Marsh at short extra cover. By that stage, South Africa had lost three wickets in seven balls and were in trouble at 122 for 6.Reeza Hendricks helped rebuild South Africa’s innings•Gallo Images/Getty Images

Ferreira fire The fifth-most expensive player at the SA20 auction last year finished with a batting average of 18.22 and three wickets at the tournament. But he showed his worth on his first international outing with an innings of authority. His first runs came when he danced down the track to send Tanveer Sangha over long-on for six before watching wickets fall at the other end. With consolidation needed, Ferreira took matters into his own hands. He hit Sangha for six again and then took 15 runs off Stoinis’ final over and 12 off Nathan Ellis. The shot of his innings was the 92-metre six he hit over extra cover off Ellis, which he smacked with full power before holding the pose to admire his own work.Marsh dismissed…finally South Africa had to wait for the third match before they saw the back of the Australian captain and they managed it fairly early in the innings. Marsh ensured Australia moved on quickly from the first ball dismissal of Matthew Short and scored three successive boundaries off Lizaad Williams’ opening over and looked set to dominate again. But his attempt to send Gerald Coetzee over the midwicket only got the toe-end of the bat and went high up in the air. Fortuin settled under it and took a good catch as South Africa breathed a collective sigh of relief. Marsh’s average in this series? Only an eye-watering 186.Keshav’s comeback South Africa’s premier left-arm spinner ruptured his Achilles tendon less than six months ago and was expected to be out of action for the rest of the year. But, in the 19th over of South Africa’s innings, he strode to the middle with his team on 176 for 7 to try and finish strong. He hit the last ball of the innings over Ellis’ head for six. Welcome back. Of course, batting is not the reason we were all waiting to see Maharaj and all eyes were on him when South Africa took the field. He pulled off a fine stop in the powerplay to deny Head a boundary and was soon called on to bowl. Maharaj could have had a wicket with his second ball but Josh Inglis was put down on 12. That over went on to cost 20.In terms of numbers and results, Maharaj won’t be happy with the way things went. But just the fact that he got onto the park, played some shots and turned his arm over made this day a success for him, who is likely to be named in the ODI World Cup squad on Tuesday.

Graeme White, Northamptonshire spinner, retires at age of 36

Club’s leading wicket-taker in T20 cricket was a mainstay of Blast triumph in 2016

ESPNcricinfo staff01-Sep-2023Graeme White, Northamptonshire’s all-time leading T20 wicket-taker and a mainstay of the side that won the T20 Blast in 2016, has announced his retirement from professional cricket.White, 36, claimed 280 wickets in 276 appearances across all formats in his 18-year career, with his two stints at Northants book-ending a three-year spell at Nottinghamshire from 2010 to 2013.He played a total of 189 matches for Northamptonshire, including 113 in T20 cricket – a tally exceeded only by Alex Wakely – in which he claimed 91 wickets at 28.78. His association with the club began in 2001, when he became the youngest cricketer on the newly-created Academy at Wantage Road, and he went on to make his first-class debut five years later, after representing England at the 2006 Under-19 World Cup in Sri Lanka.”The club has and will always hold a special place in my heart. I’m a local lad and to put on the shirt as many times as I have at Wantage Road in front of our fans has been amazing,” White said.”I’ve been very fortunate to have played for nearly 20 years, something I couldn’t have imagined when I first joined the academy at 13. The fans have always been so supportive throughout my career and I hope that I’ve repaid them with performances that they’ve enjoyed and made them proud of.””I’ve been incredibly lucky to play with and against the best players in the world, and to have won the trophies I have it’s just been a dream really.”A shortage of first-team opportunities prompted White’s move to Nottinghamshire in 2010, but he returned to the club on loan during 2013 and rejoined on a permanent basis the following season. In 2015, he helped Northamptonshire reach the final of the T20 Blast, where they lost to Lancashire, but on their return to Edgbaston the following year, the club went one better. That title capped a stellar year for White, who was also named the national player of the year in the 50-over Cup and earned selection for England Lions. In 2018 he decided to focus exclusively on white-ball cricket, and in 2021 he was awarded his Northamptonshire cap, the first cricketer to receive the accolade predominantly for his achievements in the shorter formats.”Winning the T20 Blast in 2016 will always be a massive highlight for me. I had a really good season that year and to lift that trophy after the heartbreak in the final the year before was just incredible.”To also be leaving as the club’s all-time T20 wicket taker is something that I’m incredibly proud of,” he added.White will continue his career at Wantage Road, however, where he is already head coach of the second XI, as well as the club’s lead fielding and spin-bowling coach.”I look forward to helping the club be successful again in all formats, and hopefully we are able to get the supporters a trophy they deserve.”
