Man Utd make approach for Elliot Anderson as Nottingham Forest's demands emerge

Manchester United have made an approach to sign Elliot Anderson, and Nottingham Forest’s demands to sanction a departure have now been revealed.

Fabrizio Romano confirmed that Man United plan to bolster their options in the engine room next year, when commenting on their interest in Stuttgart’s Angelo Stiller and Atletico Madrid’s Conor Gallagher.

The transfer expert said: “January is not going to be easy. It’s going to be about opportunities in the summer could be different. And for sure, Manchester United in 2026 will add again, at least one midfielder.”

The desire to sign a new central midfielder comes amid uncertainty over Kobbie Mainoo’s future, with it recently emerging the youngster is in advanced talks to join Napoli, while Ruben Amorim may also need to plan for life after Casemiro, as the Brazilian’s contract is due to expire next summer.

The 33-year-old is yet to put pen to paper on a new deal, despite putting in some solid performances this season, with Rio Ferdinand praising the former Real Madrid man for his performance in the 2-1 win against Liverpool at Anfield last month.

Ferdinand said: “He was outstanding in that first-half yesterday. I think his positional sense and awareness in that midfield area in a big game like that was invaluable.”

Man Utd make approach to sign Elliot Anderson

According to Sky Sports reporter Florian Plettenberg on X, Man United have now made an approach to sign Nottingham Forest star Anderson, having “registered concrete interest” in signing the midfielder.

Forest have been “informed” of their Premier League rivals’ desire to get a deal done, but it would be fair to say they are playing hard ball, as a fee in the region of £100m – £120m is “still being demanded.”

It is no wonder the Tricky Trees are hesitant to sanction a departure unless they receive a huge fee, considering the Englishman has impressed for both club and country this season, putting in a fantastic performance on his Three Lions’ debut against Andorra back in September.

More recently, the 23-year-old got on the scoresheet in Forest’s 3-1 victory against Leeds United, bagging the third goal from the penalty spot to help his side secure what could prove to be a vital three points in the relegation battle.

Lauded as “sensational” by The Athletic’s Nick Miller, the four-time England international has also impressed from a defensive point of view over the past year, placing in the 89th percentile for tackles per 90, when compared to other midfielders, having averaged 2.89.

Anderson is exhibiting very promising signs at Nottingham Forest, but £120m would be a huge fee to pay for a player who is not yet regarded as one of the best midfielders in the world, so Man United should try and get a deal done for a much lower fee.

MLB Insider Suggests Two Teams Have the 'Edge' in Juan Soto Sweepstakes

The Juan Soto sweepstakes are intensifying as MLB free agency continues on. Soto and his agent Scott Boras have met with a handful of teams and are reportedly due to meet with the Los Angeles Dodgers on Tuesday.

Early on, MLB insider Jon Heyman indicates a couple of teams have an "edge" over the rest of competition as organizations vie for Soto's signature.

Speaking with Brandon London on SNY, Heyman said Tuesday that the New York Mets and Toronto Blue Jays are the teams currently the teams in best position to win the bidding war for Soto.

"If I were going to predict today—and I change every other day—I think it's going to be about the money," Heyman said. "So, the teams that are going to be able to win the bidding war are probably the teams with the biggest advantage. I'm going to say right here, that the Mets followed by the Blue Jays … would be my guess today."

Heyman made clear that money will talk as the Soto sweepstakes continue to unfold. Whatever team is willing to put forth the most compelling financial offer to the Dominican Republic native could wind up being the team that adds him to their ranks. Heyman notes that offer could potentially exceed $700 million.

Last season with the New York Yankees, Soto slashed .288/.419/.569 with 41 home runs, 109 RBIs and a career-high 7.9 WAR.

Lancashire beat clock as Hartley finishes off Gloucestershire with 11-wicket haul

Spinner completes memorable match after first-innings hundred as visitors continue upturn in form

ECB Reporters Network supported by Rothesay25-Jul-2025Lancashire 557 (Green1 60, Hartley 130, Hurst 106) and 110 for 1 (Jennings 57*) beat Gloucestershire 381 (Charlesworth 160, Phillips 64, Hartley 6-116) and 285 (Charlesworth 71, Phillips 56, Hartley 5-99) by nine wicketsMan-of-the-match Tom Hartley produced another career-best performance to propel Lancashire to a hard-earned nine-wicket victory over Gloucestershire at Cheltenham and keep alive their hopes of winning promotion back to Division One of the Rothesay County Championship.Having previously staged his highest score of 130 and taken 6 for 116 to put his team in control, the England slow left-armer claimed 5 for 99 on the final day of an entertaining match at the famous old College Ground as the red rose county made it two wins out of three in the red-ball format under the new leadership team of interim head coach Steve Croft and captain James Anderson.Made to follow on, Gloucestershire were dismissed for 285 in 98 overs in their second innings, Hartley finishing with match figures of 11 for 215 after Ben Charlesworth and Joe Phillips had scored 71 and 56 respectively for the home side. Chris Green weighed in with 2 for 62 as spin accounted for seven wickets on a surface offering some assistance.Set 110 to win in 26 overs, Lancashire chased down their target for the loss of Luke Wells with five overs to spare, courtesy of an authoritative unbroken second wicket partnership of 103 between Keaton Jennings and Josh Bohannon. Confronted by four spinners as Gloucestershire dispensed with seam, Jennings top-scored with a brisk 57 not out from 67 balls, while the equally forthright Bohannon faced 50 deliveries in raising an undefeated 45 as the visitors eased to victory in the final hour.Lancashire took 22 points to move into fourth place in Division Two, in the process leapfrogging Gloucestershire, who settled for five points after sustaining their third defeat of the season.Gloucestershire resumed their second innings on 98 without loss, still 78 in arrears and potentially vulnerable to a repeat of the collapse that undermined their first innings. It was incumbent upon openers Cameron Bancroft and Charlesworth to build upon their good start on a pitch that was offering some assistance to spin, but which was not expected to break up.If Gloucestershire’s minimum requirement was to bat two sessions, Lancashire were reading from an altogether different script, Anderson claiming the prized scalp of Bancroft in the opening over, the Australian edging to midwicket without adding to his overnight score of 35.Having seen off Anderson, Charlesworth was no doubt disappointed to then succumb to George Balderson in his first over from the Chapel Lawn End. Attempting a back-foot flick, Gloucestershire’s first-innings centurion found Marcus Harris at short midwicket and departed for 71 with the score 129 for 2. Guilty of poor shot selection, Ollie Price then pursued a wide delivery from Hartley that bounced off a length and edged to Luke Wells at slip, at which point Gloucestershire were 134 for 3, still 42 in arrears, having lost three wickets in the first hour. They came close to losing another in the next over, Miles Hammond standing his ground and being afforded the benefit of the doubt when Jennings claimed a catch at short square leg off the bowling of Hartley. The reprieve proved temporary, Green pinning Hammond lbw for 22 in the final over before lunch, which was taken with the score 168 for 4. Representing Gloucestershire’s best chance of saving the game, Phillips remained unbeaten on 35.He was joined by James Bracey and these two wiped out the remaining arrears early on in the afternoon session, Phillips going to a hard-earned 50 from 91 balls with his eighth four. But Lancashire continued to take wickets, Jack Blatherwick angling a short delivery into the body of Bracey, who was unable to get his bat out of the way and edged behind. His departure was a blow for Gloucestershire, who were in effect 21 for 5 with 57 overs left in the day.An even bigger blow befell the home side when Phillips’ vigil came to an end soon afterwards, the Cornishman held by the safe hands of Jennings at short leg off the bowling of the ubiquitous Hartley. Phillips had faced 110 balls, accrued eight fours and defied the red rose bowlers for three hours. Hartley then extracted additional spin to remove Graeme van Buuren, who stretched forward and was caught behind for 8 to leave the home side between a rock and a hard place at 210 for 7.Todd Murphy led a Gloucestershire counterattack, going for his shots, pushing the field back and sharing in a useful stand of 41 in eight overs with Zaman Akhter, who scored a breezy 20 before offering a return catch to Green as the home side slipped to 251 for 8. Ajeet Singh Dale survived a searching examination at the hands of Anderson and the new ball, he and Murphy digging in to reach tea on 268 for 8. Gloucestershire had a slender lead of 92 with a minimum 35 overs remaining.Lancashire’s go-to man, Hartley returned to bowl Murphy for a 56-ball 33 and complete the first 10-wicket match haul of his career as an enthralling contest entered its final session. He then accounted for last man Marchant de Lange, held at short square leg as Gloucestershire’s resistance with the bat finally came to an end in the early-evening sunshine.

Joga água no chope?

Do lado do Galo, Mariano, Márcio Araújo e Jael atuaram naquela partida.

Here is a detailed look at Everton's 10 biggest signings… 10 Jordan Pickford £25m from Sunderland

Jordan Pickford is one of seven players Everton have spent £25m on, and arguably the most successful.

The goalkeeper has been first choice for the Toffees and England during his time on Merseyside and could well finish his career at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

9 Beto £26m from Udinese

Costing slightly more at £26m was striker Beto, who swapped Serie A and Udinese for a shot at the Premier League with Everton.

The Portuguese striker even scored on his debut 24 hours after putting pen to paper on a Toffees deal which is set to expire in 2027.

8 Thierno Barry £27m from Villarreal

Another forward who arrived for a big fee was Thierno Barry. Following Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s departure from Goodison Park, Everton acted in the 2025 summer transfer market to sign the French forward.

Villarreal recieved £27m, whereas Barry signed a four-year deal on £45,000-a-week.

7 Yerry Mina £27.2m from Barcelona

After just six months at Barcelona, defender Yerry Mina joined Everton in 2018, costing the Toffees in excess of £27m.

The Colombia international spent five years at Goodison Park and left upon the expiration of his contract in 2023 for Italian side Fiorentina.

6 Alex Iwobi £28m from Arsenal

Alex Iwobi ended up costing Everton £28m in 2019, with the versatile midfielder spending four years on Merseyside before he was sold to Fulham.

The Nigerian made more than 100 appearances for the Toffees, who recouped £22m of the fee when Iwobi moved to Craven Cottage.

5 Romelu Lukaku £28m from Chelsea

Clubs have spent more than £300m on Romelu Lukaku during the Belgian’s career to date, and his first big-money move was to Everton back in 2014.

Chelsea sold the striker after a successful loan spell on Merseyside, and Everton would go on to make a huge profit when selling Lukaku to Man Utd for £75m in 2017.

4 Amadou Onana £33m from Lille

Another player who Everton made money on was midfielder Amadou Onana, who had a brief two-year spell at Goodison Park before joining Aston Villa.

Onana set Everton back £33m, but in 2024, they were receiving £50m from those at Villa Park.

3 Richarlison £40m from Watford

Richarlison swapped Watford for Everton in 2018, and the Brazilian striker scored more than 50 goals for the Blues in 153 games.

A £40m fee proved to be worth it for the Toffees, who cashed in on the forward four years later, with Tottenham paying them an initial £50m.

2 Tyler Dibling £42m from Southampton

Everton splashed the cash on teenage attacking midfielder Tyler Dibling in 2025, and the Toffees will be hoping he can go on to prove his worth on Merseyside.

Making the youngster the club’s second most expensive signing of all time appears to be a gamble, but there’s no denying Dibling’s creative ability.

1 Gylfi Sigurdsson £45m from Swansea

Top of the list as Everton’s record signing is Gylfi Sigurdsson, with the attacking midfielder costing a whopping £45m.

The Iceland international never really lived up to the billing, though, and after making more than 150 appearances, left as a free agent in 2022.

Tottenham now planning aggressive talks to sign "intense" Man Utd target

After a late flurry of transfers in the summer window, Tottenham Hotspur are now reportedly planning aggressive negotiations to sign a midfield target ahead of Manchester United.

Levy steps down at Tottenham

For all their late work to welcome Xavi Simons, it is still Daniel Levy’s name in the headlines. The long-term Spurs chief has left his role as chairman, with the North London club seeking a fresh start aimed at winning silverware. After almost 25 years at the club, Levy’s departure came as unexpected news.

Releasing a statement confirming the news, Levy said: “I am incredibly proud of the work I have done together with the executive team and all our employees.

“We have built this club into a global heavyweight competing at the highest level. More than that, we have built a community. I was lucky enough to work with some of the greatest people in this sport, from the team at Lilywhite House and Hotspur Way to all the players and managers over the years.

“I wish to thank all the fans that have supported me over the years. It hasn’t always been an easy journey but significant progress has been made. I will continue to support this club passionately.”

Tottenham now expected to make January move to sign "magnificent" £43m star

They’re already thinking about the winter window.

By
Tom Cunningham

Sep 6, 2025

In his place is Peter Charrington and ex-Arsenal chief Vinai Venkatesham, who will be hoping to leave their mark as soon as possible. With Thomas Frank at the helm and the likes of Simons secured as a parting gift from Levy, all eyes will be on Champions League qualification and more in years to come.

The January transfer window is also now one to watch. If Spurs want to impress in a new era, then welcoming one particular midfield star would certainly be the way to do it.

Tottenham planning aggressive Gallagher move

According to reports in Spain, Tottenham are now planning aggressive talks to sign Conor Gallagher from Atlético Madrid.

The Lillywhites were interested in his signature in the summer, but ultimately failed to secure his signature. Now, in the face of competition from Manchester United, they may push on and finally get their man.

Whether Diego Simeone lets his midfielder go without a fight is the question. The Atlético Madrid boss was full of praise for Gallagher in April, telling reporters: “It’s never easy for players coming from England to adapt to the Spanish championship, to the language … He has competed very well in different places and in positions where he doesn’t feel more comfortable.

“He will evolve, he has room for growth. He is very intense in offensive and defensive play, he brings a lot to us.”

Frank’s midfield has already been key to any success in the early days of his tenure and the addition of the “intense” Gallagher would only improve things. In a World Cup year, meanwhile, moving back to English football would certainly not be a bad idea for the former Chelsea man.

Massimiliano Allegri stands by Christian Pulisic after AC Milan penalty miss as he insists he won't change spot-kick taker

Milan head coach Massimilano Allegri has stood by Christian Pulisic after the US national team forward missed a penalty against Juventus in a nail-biting Serie A encounter on Sunday. The manager, who returned as the Rossoneri boss earlier this summer, has firmly stated that one miss will not prompt him to change his team's routine penalty-taker.

  • Allegri firm on his position

Milan dropped two points against Juventus in a gripping encounter, and the main reason behind it was Pulisic's missed penalty in the first half. Allegri, however, did not criticise his main man up fron, insisting he will not be making a change. Confirming his trust in the 27-year-old, the Italian manager said, "Pulisic has always been the penalty kick taker. You don’t change it for a mistake."

He also shared his concern about who will be the penalty-taker in Pulisic's absence. "We need to understand who can be the penalty taker when Pulisic is not on the pitch," he added.

    Pulisic is Serie A's top-scorer

Despite the spot-kick debacle, Pulisic continues to dominate the goal-scoring chart, having scored four goals in six appearances so far. He is the joint top-scorer, however, with Bologna's Riccardo Orsolini. Following him in the table are Napoli's Kevin De Bruyne and Inter's Lautaro Martinez, and Marcus Thuram. Apart from the four goals, he has two assists to his name, too. He has been influential in the Coppa Italia with two goals in two outings.

  • Milan lose golden opportunity?

Milan have lost only one game in the Serie A so far, and that came in their opening fixture against Cremonese. In their build-up to the much-desired Scudetto, the Rossoneri have accumulated 13 points in six games and have defeated defending champions and the current league leaders Napoli as well. A win against Juventus would have helped them move top after six rounds of competitive matches; however, the stalemate against the Bianconeri has left them third. Although Pulisic was the one who missed the spot-kick, Milan's frontline as a whole remain under scrutiny for their lack of ruthlessness, with Allegri urging them to kill games.

Milan have important fixtures after the international break

Once the October international break concludes, Milan will have some challenges awaiting them. On October 19, they'll face Fiorentina, followed by a comparatively easier fixture against bottom-dwellers Pisa five days later. In their next two games, they will take on Atalanta (October 28) and Gian Piero Gasperini's Roma (November 2).

Ballon d'Or voting points confirmed: Ousmane Dembele ran away with it as final Lamine Yamal tally revealed

Paris Saint-Germain forward Ousmane Dembele was confirmed as the 2025 Ballon d'Or winner earlier this week and final voting figures revealed he finished more than 300 points clear of Barcelona's teenage superstar Lamine Yamal. The Frenchman's stellar campaign, which included a historic quadruple, made him only PSG's second ever recipient of the prestigious prize.

2025 Ballon d'Or voting points confirmed

Final voting numbers released on Friday, four days after the ceremony itslef, confirmed that Dembele finished top with 1,380 points, ahead of Yamal on 1,059 – the only two playes to break through the 1,000-point barrier. Vitinha (703), Mohamed Salah (657) and Raphinha (620) rounded out the top five.

The top 10 also included Achraf Hakimi (484), Kylian Mbappe (378), Cole Palmer (211), Gianluigi Donnarumma (172) and Nuno Mendes (171). Liverpool star Salah was recognised again after another prolific year, while Palmer earned a surprise eighth place after shining for Chelsea. The top 10 included five Paris Saint-Germain stars overall, highlighting Les Parisiens' massive season.

Getty ImagesDembele's fantastic 2024/25 season

Dembele's triumph caps off a campaign in which PSG finally lifted their first Champions League trophy. The reinvented Frenchman scored 35 goals and provided 14 assists across all competitions as Luis Enrique's side swept to four titles. For Yamal, finishing second at just 18-years-old underlined his growing status as the future of Barcelona and Spain, while he remarkably still has three more chances to break Ronaldo Nazario's record as the youngest ever winner. It's already impossible to imagine him winning at least one Ballon d'Or during his career.

Dembele and Yamal could face off next week

Dembele will now look to build on his Ballon d'Or triumph by sustaining PSG's momentum into 2025-26. Yamal, meanwhile, will be determined to go one better after already proving he belongs among the world’s elite. The two former colleagues could go head-to-head next week when PSG take on Barcelona at the Olympic Stadium, with Yamal declaring himself fit after injury.
